I’ve been tattooing for just over two years now, one year on my own after a year’s apprenticeship.
I do a range of different styles really, but my main passion is a cartoon style mixed with some colour realism. I love Pop culture, so anything geeky in that style is what I love to do. I also really love Black & Grey realism. My artist style is sort of the same really. When I tend to draw and paint I tend to lean on the realistic side of things but I love comic books, so it can go either way depending on my mood. My art has affected my tattooing in terms of knowing colour theory etc. I’ve done a number of years studying art through A-Level to Degree level learning the basics and different techniques, so it’s really tattooing that’s taught me how to work in a more precise manner. I now work from the bottom – up on paintings and drawings as that’s how I tattoo. Tattooing and art have influenced each other.
So far I’ve not participated in any collaborations, but I’d really like to! I’d love to mix my cartoon style and pop culture references with (for example) watercolour or Black & Grey realism.. whatever makes an interesting piece.
A lot of artists have inspired me over the years. Chuck Close who I studied in University gave me inspiration to better my portraits. Tattooists like Nikko Hurtado have been an inspiration for a long time as his work is so unreal. Simon K Bell has a unique style and his colour is so smooth. The artists I work with (Danielle Merricks and Przemek Malachowski) are daily inspirations, they keep me on my toes and it’s lovely that we can share each other’s artwork.
I’m a massive horror fan, especially the foreign films as they tend to be the scariest. I’ve loved the Legend of Zelda and Tomb Raider since I was 5 and can also play the piano!
